Our Work : Why in Hunasvadi village?

We are currently working with farmers in Hunasvadi Village, Madhugiri Taluk, and  Tumkur District in Karnataka.

  • After extensive search for 1 year, we found this village, Hunasvadi in  Madhugiri Taluk, Tumkur District, Karnataka through one of our drivers. It is located 100 kms from Bangalore. This village is a very dry and arid area with very little rainfall. More than 300 families are residing here and most of them are farmers.  Cultivation mostly happens during monsoon and the rest of the year the land is left vacant without any farming activity. Other reasons to choose this village - Very less green coverage compared to other areas.

  • Water sources like nearby canals and rivers are not available to supplement water shortage during summer season and Cultivation solely depends on borewell and yearly rains.

  • Many farmers practice monocropping like maze, ragi & ground nuts which are not very economical for them to sustain their livelihood.

  • In the long run, one of Samashti’s goals is to send these drivers back to farming who were farmers once but migrated to cities in search of better living and improved livelihood leaving their family and kids.
